PISMO BEACH

An excellent place to get out of the summer heat and enjoy soft, sandy beaches is Pismo Beach, CA, the clam capital of California.  Located on the California coast, just south of San Luis Obispo, on California Highway 1, this wonderful beach town offers sand, sun, surf, golf and sandy dunes. With many RV parks to choose from, the area is a good choice for RV travel and peaceful days on the beach. The area boasts a quaint little beach town with shops, hotels and restaurants, a pier for sunset strolling and many fun little towns to visit all within easy driving distance. The area is also known for the abundant wineries that make their home on the graceful hills of this part of California. Even your dog can stroll on the beach with you.

OCEANO BEACH

Just south of Pismo Beach you can find Oceano Dunes, one of California’s unique State Parks. In this area, nearly 5 ½ miles of sandy beach is available for driving and camping. The Oceano Dunes beach area is the only California beach where vehicles can drive on the beach. Although some people do bring cars onto the beach, many do get stuck in the deep sands so having a four wheel drive vehicle is the best option if you are burning to take a drive on the beach.  Camping is allowed directly on the beach and many RV’ers do bring their rigs right down onto the beach to spend some very “up close and personal” time on the beach in this area.  The entrance to Oceano Dunes State Park is located three miles south of Pismo Beach off of the Pier Avenue Beach ramp. Summer temperatures average in the 50’sto the 70’s with nighttime lows in the 50’s. Winter highs average in the 50’s and 60’s. Dense morning fog and high winds in coming in from the ocean especially in the spring and summer are often present at the beach. The dunes area is one of the most extensive coastal dunes areas in the state of California with the area shaped by the multitude of rivers and creeks ending in this coastal area. The wind shapes the sand and sediment into the wonderful dunes present in this area.
